Fishing has great for some time now. Some boats are catching 30+ fish a day in the 1- 4 pound range. They are trolling using, Apexes, Sierra Special Spoons, Flatfish or Kwikfish. Try using a downrigger at about 20 ft. to start then try deeper or shallower until you start getting hits. Fish have been in 60 feet of water, suspended 10 to 30 ft. deep. Do not for get to troll in a zigzag pattern until you figure out what depth the bottom should be and what depth the downrigger works best for getting strikes. The depth of the water and the depth the fish are suspended can vary from week to week depending on the surface water temperature so try the suggestions I gave above. If you have more than one downrigger, stagger the downriggers at different depths until you start getting hits. Last weekend the darker colored Flat fish, Kwikfish, Sierra Special Spoons were working well. Try trolling at Barlow Bay on the Southwest side of the lake. Another Spot to try if the weather is good would be Sandy Point on the Eastside of the lake.
Some shore fishermen are catching limits with Powerbait or casting Sierra Special Spoons. If you’re a shore fisherman try fishing beaches that offer shallow water and deep water as well such as the north end in the sandy areas where the bottom is shallower and the rock area just to the south where the water gets deeper the further you walk into the rocks, Sand Point where you have deep water of f the point and shallower water as you work your way west into the cove, just to mention a few. The area east or west of sportsmen boat launch has both deep and shallow water near shore I’ll say more about the area and others on another report.

WES, BOB AND BILL WENT TO WALKER ON THURSDAY, AND FOUND IT VERY DIFFICULT TO LAUNCH....IN FACT, THEY DIDN'T! HE REPORTED THE SAND IS AN INSURMOUNTABLE BLOCKAGE! ABOUT 2 FT. HIGH AT WATER'S EDGE.
THOUGHT YOU'D WANT TO KNOW.
Note from Wes:
Bob and Bill are regular visitors and accomplished fishermen at Walker Lake, NV. When Bob and Bill say it is bad at the launch, it's bad. Sometimes BLM or Mineral County Road Department brings out a backhoe and cleans the sand out if someone lets them know it a problem. Unfortunately with the lower lake level the sand fills back in on the launch ramp with in a few day especially after a wind storm. Everybody is trying to do their best but the way the ramp is made and during the lower lake levels there is nothing much else that can be done. Pray for lots of moisture and hope we get it. During the years of lots of water (snow pack in the mountains and more than two years in a row) this is not a problem. The launch ramp has been designed to keep most of the sand back and when some sand does build up the county or BLM can clean it off and it stays off for quite a while. Be careful not to launch your boat if you think you might not be able to pull it out.
