I have read reports of thin ice on scofield. Lets hope the cold snap thickens it up enough to walk on!!!:)

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but Scofeild is quite a while before the ice is thick enough to walk on. Sunday, it was well above freezing in the mountains (35*+) around there, and a HUGE hole just north of the island was forming throughout the day. 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch around the edges, less out 10 feet. I'd think It'll be safe by mid december. It's just too warm for thick ice to form up there.:(

Well if its already capped off the edges will keep building ice. Once you get it to cap off it will take on average 3-7 days for it get 3-5 inches of safe ice, give or take a few days with extreme weather.
Water is one of the best conductors of heat. Just look at the ocean currents or consider how long it takes for lake temperatures to drop 5 degree's.

Had to much fun at Scofield today . My biggest went 18" with about 4 fish a hour . Caught one cut-bow and the rest were bows . Only hooked 3 smaller planters .When I first got there I used my flashlight and could see them cruising up close to the ice right to my light . Ice was 4" and seen ATV cruising around on the ice , but I will wait till it is a bit thicker . LOL Fished from 6:30 to 12:30 . I was the first on the ice but someone had the right idea by camping right on the shore . They hit everything I dropped down . Rat finkees , Needlefish , curly tail grubs , and ice flies . Not that many people there , maybe a 100 .
