The middle Ches Bay is extra heavy with croakers right now, from Hoopers Straits to Point Lookout, to Smith Island and any hard bottom to the south. That's a huge area and the bigger stripers have moved mostly out of the Bay with a few 30"-32" still being found mixed into smaller rockfish in the chumlines.
We are also having a huge peeler run of crabs, which also means plenty of softies in the grass beds for maraudering rockfish.
But the big fishing story right now is croaker, and I mean biggins up to five pounds. Taking them on grubs, BAs and sinking flies, like the Gonzo.
